The Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, has firmly assured Nigerians that no federal infrastructure project will be abandoned under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Umahi gave the executive guarantee over the weekend during a comprehensive on-site inspection of federal road networks spanning Ebonyi State. According to the Minister, the federal government is prioritizing strategic infrastructure to serve as a catalyst for national economic growth and inter-state connectivity.
Addressing stakeholders and journalists during the project tour, the Minister revealed that federal road construction projects have already yielded thousands of direct and indirect jobs within host communities.
Umahi emphasized that the ministry’s mandatory shift to reinforced concrete pavement technology is a strategic double-win for Nigeria’s economy:
- Unmatched Durability: Concrete roads offer a significantly longer lifespan and lower maintenance costs compared to traditional asphalt.
- Local Content Boost: The technology triggers massive demand for the local cement industry, keeping capital within the Nigerian ecosystem
Beyond engineering, the Minister touched heavily on the countryโs sensitive political landscape. He urged the people of the South-East region to look past partisan criticism and acknowledge the unprecedented volume of federal investment currently being deployed to their doorstep
In a sharp political assessment, the former Ebonyi State Governor criticized the cyber and social support base of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Umahi alleged that certain elements within the movement systematically attack dissenting voices rather than building constructive networks
Looking ahead, the Minister explicitly called on the South-East to align early with the ruling party and actively back President Tinubuโs re-election bid in the upcoming 2027 general elections based on verifiable regional development.
