The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to determine the cut-off for the 2023 admissions into universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions. The decision will be made on June 24, 2023, during a gathering at the National Judicial Institute. The event will be attended by heads of various tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies, including the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education.

In the weekly bulletin shared by JAMB’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr Fabian Benjamin, it was stated that each tertiary institution would be represented by two individuals: the Head of the Institution and one nominated official. The Policy Meeting will address several critical issues, including those arising from the Registrar’s presentation on the recently concluded UTME. Additionally, matters of national importance within the education sector will be discussed, policy directions for tertiary institutions will be established, admission guidelines will be set, application statistics and candidates’ performance will be analyzed, and the 2023 admission exercise will be evaluated.

One of the key decisions to be made during the policy meeting is the determination of the acceptable minimum admissible score for all admissions across Nigerian tertiary institutions. This decision will significantly impact the admission process and ensure fairness and standardization in admissions.

It’s important to note that during the previous year’s meeting, institutions were granted the authority to set their minimum allowable cut-off marks for admission. However, once adopted and general concessions were reached, institutions were not permitted to go below the agreed-upon minimum cut-off marks.

The upcoming policy meeting holds immense significance as it will shape the admission process for the 2023 academic year and establish guidelines for tertiary institutions nationwide. Stakeholders, including heads of institutions and regulatory bodies, will collaborate to ensure that the decisions made promote excellence, fairness, and quality education in the country’s tertiary education system.

Aspiring students and other relevant parties eagerly await the outcomes of this policy meeting, which will provide clarity on the admission process, including cut-off marks and other important aspects.
