IBM’s quantum supercomputer, the sixth in the world, can be installed in Donostia in the second half of 2025 once the work on the Ikerbasque building that will house it is completed.
The Minister of Education, Jokin Bildarratz, has advanced the first deadlines of the project in statements to journalists before presiding in San Sebastián the meeting of the strategic committee of Basque Quantum, the alliance between the Basque Government, the three provincial councils and IBM to establish in Euskadi a quantum computing center.
“I want to announce that the building that will house this computer will be completed in the first half of 2025. This will make it possible for the IBM quantum computer to be definitively installed in the second half of 2025,” stated the counselor.
He recalled that Basque Quantum constitutes a “strategic project as a country” because it will place Euskadi as “the sixth node worldwide of what this entire quantum system is.”
He has indicated that, even though the works were stopped for two months, there have been “no problems” beyond those usual in this type of infrastructure, so he insisted that the new building will be completed in the first half of 2025.
