The former Head of Department in the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness (MRH), Obinze, Owerri West LGA, Imo State, Pastor Chikaodi Christopher Azoro Maduabuchi, has expressed disappointment and bitterness over the continued violation of girls and women’s rights.
He highlighted that this is FGM damages girls’ future, harms their sex organs –Azoro Maduabuchrevalent in Imo, Ebonyi, Kogi, Oyo, Lagos, Osun, and Ekiti states where, he said, most people still practice Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
He narrated how many girls and women in Njaba, Orlu, Ikeduru, Okigwe, and other LGAs of Imo State cry daily as a result of the damage done to their sex organs.
The priest reiterated that the practice is not only harmful to the girls and the women but also causes death, infertility, loss of sexual pleasure, and infection.
He added that the practice is a violation of human rights.
The Clergyman noted that females who undergo FGM often experience long-term health challenges including abscesses, scarring, cysts, tissue damage, infertility, increased susceptibility to infections, and may experience difficulty and pain when they menstruate, urinate, or have sexual intercourse.
He noted that he was surprised that people are still practicing FGM in this 21st century.
Pastor Maduabuchi urged those in the practice to desist from it before it is too late. “The practice of FGM is man’s inhumanity to man. The obnoxious practice must be stopped as a matter of urgency”, he stated.
He submitted that many girls and women have been rendered hopeless and useless, as the case may be and many homes have been destroyed because of the wicked act.
The Priest advised the government, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to punish those who practice FGM so that it would serve as a deterrent to others.
