Don't let gender be a barrier to excellence, Ogun Deputy Gov

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele has said gender should no longer be a barrier to achieving excellence and holding leadership positions.

She made this known during the Investiture of Engr Margaret Oguntala as the 34th President and the first-ever female President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, held at the African Hall, International Conference Center Abuja, adding that as a female engineer and a politician herself, she clearly understands the challenges that women often face in traditionally male-dominated careers.

According to Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the elevation of Engr Oguntala to the office of President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers sends a powerful message of inclusion, representation, and empowerment as well as signifying the fact that gender should no longer be a barrier to achieving excellence and holding leadership positions.

She stressed that the accomplishments of the 34th President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers spanning decades in the field of engineering have been nothing short of extraordinary, noting that her dedication and passion for engineering have inspired countless individuals, male and female, young and old, to pursue and sustain their dreams in this field.

While commending Engr Oguntalaโ€™s perseverance and resilience in shattering one of the last professional glass ceilings in Nigeria, she noted that her exemplary mentorship and leadership style will undoubtedly bring about positive change and pave the way for more women to pursue careers in Engineering.

The Deputy Governor who alluded to the fact that Engineers play an important role in driving economic growth and social development, urged the new President to use the office to increase advocacy for all levels of government to harness the collective talents of the engineering community to tackle the pressing challenges of the times.
