Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has Proscribed the Fulani Vigilante group code name ‘Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya Nomad Vigilante’ in the State.
The group was recently launched in the State and has since attracted reactions from Nigerians across the Country.
Sule, exercising an Executive Order on the proscription of the group, said his action was backed by Section 97A of the Penal Code, adding that the decision to Proscribe the group was also based on the advice of the State Security Council.
“In the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 97A of the Penal Code and of all other powers enabling in the behalf, the Governor of Nasarawa State acting on the advice of the State Security Council, hereby make the following Order, this order may be cited as the Penal Code (Proscription of Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya nomad Vigilante, Bassa Vigilante, Eggon Vigilante and other similar Organization) Order, 2024 and shall deemed to have come into operation on the 15 day of April 2024”.
According to him, by this pronouncement, all ethnic Vigilante groups operating in the State remain proscribed.
“The Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya nomad Vigilante, Bassa Vigilante, Eggon Vigilante and other Similar Organizations are hereby proscribed and declared unlawful societies dangerous to the good governance of Nasarawa State”.
He directed the affected groups to hand over all Weapons and Uniforms in their possession to the State Commissioner of Police within two Weeks.
“Kungiwar Zaman Lafiya nomad Vigilante, Bassa Vigilante, Eggon Vigilante and other Similar Organizations are by this Order directed to handover all weapons or arms in their possession along with uniforms to the Commissioner of Police Nasarawa State within two weeks from the date of this order”.
