Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has laid blame on the devil for the deep-seated misunderstanding between himself and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, during the latter’s tenure. Speaking passionately in Yoruba at a welcome rally organized by his loyalists in Osogbo’s Freedom Park, Aregbesola lamented that the devil had cunningly allowed animosity to thrive between them following the Supreme Court victory celebration in July 2019.

Acknowledging President Bola Tinubu as the driving force behind his political successes, Aregbesola expressed his remorse and sought forgiveness from all those who felt aggrieved by the events of the past four years. He emphasized that his current visit to the state was centered around seeking reconciliation and fostering the progressive development of the region.

“In this part of the world, politics often breeds acrimony, but today, I am not here for that,” Aregbesola declared. “We are here to seek reconciliation and forgiveness. The achievements of my tenure as governor were a collective effort, even including those who have now turned themselves into our adversaries.”

Recalling the gathering they shared in July 2019 after the Supreme Court victory, where unity was called for, Aregbesola clarified that he had expressed his intention to conclude his tenure and hand over to his preferred successor, while assuming the role of a godfather. However, he expressed deep regret that his words had been misinterpreted, allowing the devil to sow seeds of discord that persisted for four long years.

“I never demanded anything from my successor, let alone being denied such a thing. But some people harbored envy in their hearts toward our presence,” Aregbesola lamented. “Despite all of this, I seek forgiveness from those who were offended by certain actions. Once this request for forgiveness is made, I will not beg anybody again. We did not intentionally harm anyone, nor do we believe that anyone intentionally harmed us. However, if they hold the belief that we offended them, we humbly seek their forgiveness.”

In a poignant display of humility and a desire for reconciliation, Aregbesola’s heartfelt plea serves as a call to mend the deep-seated divisions that have plagued their political landscape. As he seeks absolution, he hopes to pave the way for a new era of unity, understanding, and progress within their political realm, ultimately conquering the malevolent forces that have hindered their shared objectives.
