SuspectsControversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has alleged that security sources in Abuja warned him that his name was listed among individuals marked for elimination alongside members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
โThey called me from Abuja and said there was a security meeting,โ
Speaking during a recent address, Gumi said he received an early-morning call from an unidentified contact who claimed that his name came up during a national security meeting.
Gumi recounted. โThey told me I have been marked that I would be eliminated. And who are Boko Haram?โAccording to the cleric, the caller insisted that his name appeared on a supposed assassination list.
He questioned the motives of security agencies and also suggested that foreign powers, particularly the United States, contributed to the rise of Boko Haram and instability in Nigeria.
Gumi went further, accusing former U.S. President Donald Trumpโs policies of worsening Nigeriaโs security challenges and deepening ethnic and religious divisions. He lamented that leaders, scholars, and clerics had remained largely silent. He argued that external influence has shaped public narratives in ways that pit citizens against one another and create the false impression that only Christians are victims of insecurity.
โBecause of lies, violence came. Where are the leaders? Where are the scholars?โ he asked. โEveryone has gone to hide.โ
The cleric also criticized Nigerian elites, accusing them of abandoning dialogue and leaving ordinary citizens with โnoise instead of solutions,โ while hardship and fear continue to grow.
Gumi warned that the lack of sincere engagement is dragging the country into deeper crisis.
โYou brought hardship, you broke us. You denied us our rights,โ he said. โThis situation is pulling the country down.โ
His claims have sparked renewed debate around national security, political rhetoric, and the influence of foreign actors though security agencies have yet to publicly comment on the allegations.
