The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Capital Territory Command, has arrested three suspected vandals and cable thieves for unlawful possession of communication cables.

The suspects are Peter Kile (27) from Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State; Akanuge Sammel (27) from Konshisha LGA of Benue State; and Justin Tundu (31) also from Konshisha LGA.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Comfort Okomanyi, on Sunday, the suspects were caught around the House on the Rock Church Junction, Airport Road in Abuja with fiber cables which were identified to be government property.

The suspects were said to have been arrested by the NSCDC FCT Command Patrol team following intelligence reports that some criminals disguised as engineers were pretending to be involved in cable works to vandalize and steal cables.

Okomanyi quoted the FCT Commandant, NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, as promising, while parading the suspects to intensify the onslaught against criminals and vandals.

He said “We are going to flush vandals out of FCT. You are beginning to see the results of our reactivated patrol teams. We will intensify our efforts to fish out all of them, and more arrests will be made in due course.

“These three suspects vandalized and carted away fiber cables but unfortunately for them, the eagle-eyed men of my patrol teams averted their plans.”
