Nassarawa boat mishap claims 12 lives

Twelve lives were said to have been lost in boat crashes that occurred at the Kogi Kungra Kamfani River in Arikiya, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The accident was disclosed on Thursday by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi during an emergency sitting of the House in Lafia.

Nineteen passengers were said to be on board when the accident occurred.

Only seven persons were rescued.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commiserated with the state government and Lafia Local Government Area over the death of people in the boat accident.

While condoling with the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones, Abdullahi said, “It is very sad that we lost 12 people, comprising men and women in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.

“19 people were on board, 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident.”

The state assembly urged the families, Lafia LGA and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.

“On behalf of myself, Honourable members and the staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA and the state government over their deaths in the boat mishap

“We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest,” he added.

It was reported that the lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of the dead citizens of the state.
