Ekiti Govt reiterates commitments to promote digital literacy

Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting digital literacy in basic education programmes across the state.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye who made this known during a visit to the UBEC/SUBEB Smart School, Ijan Ekiti explained that the visit was to monitor and ascertain the growth of digital literacy in the school.

Dr Aderiye stated that proficiency in digital literacy is a prerequisite for pupils to be in tune with modern technology evolvement in the world, thereby making them relevant in the global space.

She charged the school management to ensure that all learning equipment provided for the school is promptly installed and deployed for an effective teaching-learning process to enable the learners to compete favourably with their counterparts across the world as well as make the word ‘smart’ reflected in the school’s academic performance.

The commissioner urged the staff to properly utilize the learning equipment at their disposal to bring out the best in the pupils because to whom much is given is expected.

In a remark, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi tasked the school management to maximize the digital opportunity at hand to improve the academic fortunes of the pupils, stressing that more support would be made available for the school..

The Head -Teacher and principal of both the primary and secondary arms of the school, Mrs.Toyosi Olokungboye and Mrs. Olanike Falegan respectively identified the lack of electricity supply as a major challenge confronting the school and pleaded for quick interventions to facilitate effective service delivery.

The commissioner and her entourage which also included the permanent secretaries of SUBEB, Mr Afolabi Adebiyi and his counterpart in the Teaching Service Commission, Mr Michael Omolayo as well as Ekiti Central Tutor-General, Mr Victor Amele were conducted round the school’s offices, laboratories and classrooms where she impactfully interacted with the learners.
