It has been confirmed that the sporadic Shooting experienced at about 7.00 PM by some members of staff residents within the University of Calabar Staff Quarters was not that of the Cultists as earlier speculated but it is from the underworld Kidnapping gang.
According to the information signed by Comrade James Ofem of the Adim. The department indicated that the Gunmen broke into the Freedom Hostel where mostly female final-year Students reside inside the University Campus and took the unsuspected Students from their rooms before shooting to take them away by Speedboat from the Unical waterfront Area to an unknown destination.
The statement gave the names of the kidnapped Students as thus: (1) Dami (Female) final year Genetics Student (2) Ojang Precious (Female) a year 2 Medical Student and (3) Star (Male) of 300 level Genetics Student.
The statement appeals to all Public-spirited individuals to come to the University of Calabar’s rescue as the whereabouts of the students are yet unknown.
