Wale Edun, a highly experienced financial expert with an extensive background in the banking sector, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Monetary Policies to President Bola Tinubu. This significant appointment was officially announced by the Director of Information at the State House on Thursday.
Wale Edun boasts a strong foundation in economics, public finance, international finance, merchant banking, and corporate finance, both at national and international levels. A notable highlight of his career was serving as the Honourable Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State for an unprecedented two terms from 1999 to 2007, during Tinubu’s tenure.
Aside from his contributions to the banking sector, Wale Edun is also recognized for his involvement in various philanthropic endeavors. He is the founder of Denham Management Limited and serves as the Chairman of Livewell Initiative, a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting health in society. Additionally, he is a Trustee of Sisters Unite for Children, an NGO focused on assisting underprivileged children.
Furthermore, Wale Edun holds positions on the boards of several companies, showcasing his diverse range of expertise and industry influence.
In terms of education, Edun completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of London and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Sussex in England. Edun gained valuable international experience during his tenure at Wall Street firms Lehman Brothers and Chase Manhattan Capital Markets Corporation in New York, USA.
With over twenty-five years of experience in merchant banking, corporate finance, economics, and international finance, Edun’s expertise is widely respected.
In 1986, Wale Edun joined the World Bank/IFC in Washington DC, USA, as part of the prestigious Young Professionals program. During his time at the World Bank, he worked on economic and financial packages for several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, as well as Indonesia and India in the Far East.
Since March 2008, Wale Edun has served as the Chairman of Chapel Hill Denham Group. He co-founded and held the position of Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Plc (formerly Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited) upon his return to Nigeria in 1989. In 1994, he established Denham Management Limited. Alongside these roles, he actively participates as a director in various private businesses.
Moreover, Wale Edun is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Ogoni Trust Fund, which is dedicated to the environmental cleanup of Ogoniland in the Niger Delta of Nigeria.
