The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has flagged off the second round of Imole Medical outreach on Wednesday in the State.
The medical exercise which took place at Ilesa General Hospital, Ilesa.
It was estimated that 30,000 citizens were expected to benefit from all surgeries.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson to the governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke promised to continue to invest the State resources to improve the health status of the people of Osun.
According to Adeleke, he said, “Today, we have come again, as a government that understands the needs of its people to reach out to our citizens to alleviate their medical challenges.”
“We have again made provisions to take care of various medical cases. The Government has provided adequate medications for this exercise and shall provide reading glasses for those that may require them.”
“The current outreach program will take place in six centers with two (2) from each Senatorial district. We believe this will in no small measure reduce the current economic burden our people have had to bear”, he said.
Governor Adeleke however directed the Commissioner for Health to work out a plan to make this outreach a regular feature of his administration.
“The Ministry should create a holistic agenda in this respect. The programme should be mainstreamed across State health institutions. “
“The implementation of the above directive will make the outreach more sustainable, more inclusive, and expand the scope of benefit. “
“I urge the Commissioner, the special advisers, the boards, and the management of the state health institutions to integrate the private sector in the expanded programmes. This will expand funding capacity and eventually deepen the delivery capacity of stakeholders”, the Governor noted.
Speaking at the Occasion, The Chairman of the planning committee and Chief Medical Director of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Prof Peter Babatunde Olaitan explained that the committee followed up the instruction of the Governor at the conclusion of the first phase of the exercise where 23,000 citizens benefitted.
“We want to assure the state leadership that all logistics are in place to ensure successful surgeries in all the six slated zones”, Prof Olaitan assured.
The occasion was also graced by the Chairman of the Board of Osun State Teaching Hospital, Hon Niyi Owolade who commended the Governor for his passion for caring for the people of Osun State.
“Osun people rejoice that a leader who truly love them is in charge. The Governor personally took deep interest in the free surgery program. Here we are with another round of life-saving outreach”, Owolade said.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye; the Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye; the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Hon Sunday Bisi among others .
