In the early hours of Friday, gunmen launched a devastating attack on the Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) secretariat, leaving several buildings and properties in ruins.
According to reports, the assailants arrived in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately, targeting various structures within the council’s headquarters.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from the incident, although the extent of the damage remains under investigation.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack, stating, “The incident occurred at Ogbaru LGA on the morning of August 30, 2024. Security operatives bravely resisted the attackers, but despite their efforts, several properties and buildings were damaged. Thankfully, no lives were lost.”
Ikenga also mentioned that a joint security operation is currently ongoing in the area to address the situation and prevent further violence.
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents targeting the Ogbaru Local Government Headquarters. A previous assault on the secretariat also resulted in the destruction of buildings and vehicles within the premises.
While the identity of the attackers remains uncertain, there is growing suspicion that secessionist groups may be responsible.
