Anambra Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man named Chinonso Ezekiel Nwaebonyi for allegedly defiling the 7-year-old daughter of his neighbor in Akwa, Anambra State.
According to the Daily Post report, the victim’s mother discovered the issue while bathing her daughter which led her to report the matter to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
The mother (name withheld) said that she discovered her daughter’s private region was enlarged one day while bathing her. Her daughter blamed Nwaebonyi when she was asked what happened.
She said that her daughter and her twin brothers had always been defiled when they went to play in the pedophile’s compound.
She further mentioned that before reporting the incident to the ministry’s authorities, who then detained Nwaebonyi, she had gone with her daughter to a drugstore to get her medications and to voice her concerns to the guardian.
The defendant, an Izzi native from Ebonyi State, admitted to the crime but insisted he did the act with the girl only once.
“I never forced the girl, I just asked her to raise her clothes and lie down on the ground,” he was quoted as saying.
The suspect had been turned over to the police so they could prosecute him at the time this report was submitted.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a man, Nweke Chukwuemeka, for allegedly murdering his neighbor’s four-year-old daughter, identified as Zinachukwu Ugwu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the commandโs public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that a distress call reporting the tragic incident was received around 10:30 p.m. on August 18, 2024.
Ndukwe stated that police operatives from the Commandโs Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in Nsukka quickly responded, rushing to the scene of the crime on Orba Road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
The commandโs spokesperson said the operatives โconsequently arrested one Nweke Chukwuemeka โmโ aged 30, alleged to have gruesomely murdered the female child, Zinachukwu Ugwu, in cold blood while she was sleeping.โ
โThe lifeless body of the child was taken to the hospital, confirmed dead, and deposited in the mortuary. Additionally, the knife used by the suspect to commit the crime, quantities of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, and an object suspected to be a charm were recovered from him,โ the police said.
According to the statement, investigation showed that the suspect hails from Umuagu-Ozalla in the Nkanu West Local Government Area, but resides in the same compound with the childโs parents along with others.
The police also disclosed, โHe initially attempted to attack other neighbors who resisted him and escaped before going into the victimโs apartment, where he saw the helpless child sleeping, and used the knife to cut through her throat.โ
