Osun State House of Assembly on Friday plenary extended the tenure of all Local Government caretaker chairmen, Scribes, and members so as not to allow a vacuum or create a constitutional crisis whose tenures of six months lapsed on Friday, 16th February 2024.
The letter from the governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke to the state House of Assembly on a request for the extension of the tenure of local government caretaker committees to grant an extension of six months tenure commencing from Saturday 17th February 2024 gave birth to the elongation of their tenures for another six months.
The speaker, Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun on the order of the day requested other lawmakers to shed light on the performances of Local government caretaker chairmen in their respective constituencies.
In their words separately, Hon Abiola Awoyeye represents the Ife Central state constituency, Hon Kanmi Ajibola of Oriade state Constituency, Hon Olumide Fatunmise represents the Ife East state constituency, and Ejigbo state constituency representative, Hon Olujinmi Asagade were on the same page with the performances of the local government caretaker chairmen as they described their performances as wonderful.
The lawmakers said the caretaker chairmen have done all within their capacity to give welfare packages to the people in their areas, urging the house to extend their tenure to enable them to deliver more dividends of democracy to the length and breadth of their community.
Hon Olumide Fatunmise representing Ife East state constituency pointed out that the local government caretaker chairman in his constituency has managed to rehabilitate a specific road to asphalt level, saying, that confirming them for another six months will be beneficial to the entire state.
The speaker after the deliberations said, “The motion has been moved and seconded that this house extends the tenure of chairmen, vice chairmen, scribes, and members of the caretaker local government management committees in Osun state for another six months, that is 17th February 2024 to 16th August 2024”.
The majority leader, Hon Kofoworola Adewumi moved the motion for adjournment seconded by Hon Olawale Akerele representing Ilesa West state constituency, and the house adjourned to Tuesday 20th February 2024.
