Senator Abdullahi Adamu has tendered his resignation as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.
The news of his resignation comes amidst ongoing challenges faced by the party following the controversial outcome of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, which has been fiercely contested by opposition parties and their candidates, notably Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Pressure had been mounting on Adamu and the party’s national secretary, Iyiola Omisore, to step down from their positions. Credible sources within the party and the Presidency, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have confirmed to Newsonline Nigeria that Adamu submitted his resignation under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adamu had initially scheduled a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting for Monday, July 17, in preparation for the Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings planned for July 18 and 19, respectively. However, with his resignation, the fate of the scheduled meeting remains uncertain.
