Mr. Urum Kalu Eke, one of the nominees for the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has declined his appointment.
President Bola Tinubu had submitted his name along with four others to the Senate for confirmation, but Kalu Eke opted out of the screening process conducted by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
During the Senate session chaired by Deputy President Senator Barau Jibrin, Senator Adetokumbo Ashiru, the committee chair, presented the names of the other four nominees who attended the screening.
However, Kalu Eke’s absence led to the committee’s inability to recommend him for confirmation.
Explaining Kalu Eke’s decision, Senator Orji Kalu, a member of the committee representing Kalu Eke’s constituency, informed the Senate that the nominee declined the appointment due to ongoing engagements and consultations with public and private bodies within and outside the country.
Kalu Eke, 60, is a former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings and has held executive positions at First Bank, Diamond Bank Plc, and Deloitte Haskins & Sells International.
