The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed Abdullahi Sule, as the duly elected Governor of Nasarawa State.
The Five members Panel of Justices headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere dismissed the Appeal filed by the main opposition Party in the State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its Candidate in the March 2023 Governorship election David Ombugadu for lacking in Merit.
The State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had ruled in favor of the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) David Ombugadu as the winner of that election.
However, on November 15, 2023, the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja vacated the Judgement of the lower Court and declared the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Sule as the winner.
Dissatisfied by the verdict of the Court of Appeal, the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), David Ombugadu headed to the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict of the Lower Court for reinstating Abdullahi Sule as the Governor of the State.
At the hearing of the substantive appeal on Tuesday this week, Justice Kudirat Kekere led the Panel to adjourn the suit for judgment after taking arguments from lawyers to the parties in the appeal.
Before the final Judgement, both Parties in the Case were optimistic of victory.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau has described the Supreme Court judgment in favor of the seating Governor as a victory for the State.
Jatau who called on the people of the State to remain peaceful, advised members of the People’s Democratic Party to join hands with the Governor in his bid to move the State forward.
