Resident Doctors Declare Indefinite Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has taken a decisive step in its pursuit of better conditions by announcing an indefinite nationwide strike. Dr. Orji Emeka Innocent, the President of the association, made this declaration during the National Executive Council meeting held in Lagos on Tuesday night. The strike is scheduled to commence at 12 midnight on Tuesday.

The primary grievances put forth by the association include the urgent payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), an immediate release of the circular on one-for-one replacement, the settlement of skipping arrears, and a necessary upward review of CONMESS in alignment with the complete restoration of salaries to the 2014 value of CONMESS. These demands reflect the pressing concerns and aspirations of the resident doctors.

By taking this measure, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors aims to draw attention to the issues they face and emphasize the importance of addressing them promptly. The strike action, being indefinite in nature, indicates the seriousness of the situation and the determination of the doctors to see meaningful improvements in their working conditions and remuneration.

As the strike unfolds, it will undoubtedly have significant implications for the healthcare system in Nigeria. The public will be closely watching how the government responds to these demands and attempts to resolve the situation in the best interest of both the doctors and the patients they serve.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike, seeking redress for pressing issues affecting their profession. Their demands revolve around fair compensation and improved working conditions. The outcome of this strike remains uncertain, but its impact on healthcare services and the negotiations between the association and the authorities will be closely monitored.
