Legislative pledged support for Nigeria's Military

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured the Nigerian military of the unalloyed support of the 10th Senate.

Akpabio who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honor at the launch of a book titled, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism in North East Nigeria – Emerging Perspective and Imperative of Airpower, pledged while speaking to newsmen after the event.

Akpabio noted that the military had done so much to keep peace in the country and commended the officers while stating that the senate would back the military with legislation and appropriation that would make their jobs easier.

“It is always encouraging to hear from the gentlemen of the press that the military and entire defence force in Nigeria have tried, because sometimes what you read on social media is very sad and appalling. The efforts they are making, even the supreme sacrifices some of the officers and men are paying in other to keep us safe are sometimes not appreciated when I see certain things churned out on social media.

“So, hearing from you, I cannot but agree with you, that yes indeed, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have done their utmost best and they are still doing their best. The job of the legislature is to support them and we can do so through appropriation, we can do so through support not just in terms of lawmaking but in terms of making sure that all the equipment that they need is budgeted adequately for those things. We take it as a major priority and reserve a major chunk of the country’s financials to assist them to succeed because without peace we can not achieve anything.”

Senator Akpabio commended the book writers and the Nigerian Air Force for deepening the discourse on the challenge of insecurity in the country noting that it was a welcomed step in the right direction
