Gunmen killed 30 Volunteers Security in Niger

Unrest as bandits kidnap 30 children in Katsina community

A Volunteer Security outfit called Yan Sa Kai has been under heavy attacks as no fewer than 30 of them have been killed by gunmen at the Dogon-Dawa community in the Mariga local government area of Niger state.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday morning during the clash between the said security outfit and the suspected bandits in the area.

It was reliably gathered that the Yan Sa Kai were said to be thrilling the suspected bandit’s movement into their hideout and unexpectedly ambushed leading to casualties from both sides after a serious exchange of gunfire.

Sources who pleaded anonymity said that there were casualties from the bandit’s side but refused to say exactly the number of them injured or killed as well.

The chairman of the Mariga local government council, Abbas Kasuwar Garba who confirmed the incident in an interview and expressed concern that as residents prepared for the farming season sequel to peace, however, called for calm as the government will investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.

Efforts to get the response of the Niger state government and police command Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP Wasiu Abiodun at the time of filing the report proved abortive.
