Cross River: ‘No March 2024 salary for all 31 MDAs’ says Head of Civil Service, Acc. General

The Cross River State Head of Civil Service, Mr. Innocent Eteng, and the Accountant General of the state, Dr. MRS. Glory Effiong have declared that except all the 31 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA’s) submit their various nominal roll for February 2023, the workers in that (MDA’S) will not be paid March 2023 salary.

This assertion was made in Calabar on Monday to media practitioners during a press briefing to ensure proper control is effected over the blown salary figure since the emergence of the present administration in the state.

The Head of the service explained that out of the 31 Ministries in the state, it was recorded that between 9 – 10 of them have obeyed the order to produce their normal roll for last month as one of the checks mechanisms to reconcile the audit Account for the month,

The state Accountant General also revealed that although the Cross River State allocations were indeed considered too small to enable the state government to pay salaries for last month, it is clear that the State government is not owing any workers in the state,

She also used the opportunity to give a breakdown of workers in the state employment thus:
The total workforce for the state stood at 56,358 civil servants split into the following,
1. Primary Health Care – 2,812, Local Government staff, 4,131, Teachers, 14,328, State Workers 12,526 while the Pensioners are 19,701 respectively.

The keeper of the state financial records explained that they had started the audit of personnel hah in the past nine months of existence yet the salaries were not delayed as his Excellence, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu ensures that every civil servant in the state receives salary yet there is an increase figure in the list of workers despite that a huge number are retiring each month.

For this reason, the head of Civil Service cautions civil servants in the state to stop collecting bribes from their colleagues for whatever service is given to the state retirees.
