Indiscriminate bush burning has burnt down Ofeme Primary Community Central school, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia state.
The fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Monday, burning down two classroom blocks in the school.
Conducting the Umuahia North Local Government Mayor, Chief Victor Ikeji, who was in the school for the spot assessment of the fire outbreak on Monday, Mrs Nkiru Izuagha, the HeadMistress of Ofeme Community Central School said that the fire started from farmland near the school.
She said that the fire outbreak burnt down two classroom blocks, adding that the fire equally destroyed chairs, tables, and office stationery within the school.
The Mayor of Umuahia North Chief Ikeji, after he assessed the extent of the damage caused by the fire, sympathized with the pupils and the school management, as he assured them that the government would come to their aid by ensuring the school was fixed.
The Mayor however warned those who are in the habit of setting farmland ablaze to desist from such acts, as these have clearly shown to be destructive.
