The President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo, on Thursday, suspended nationwide protests against the removal of fuel subsidies.
Osifo announced the suspension in an interview with Arise News on Thursday morning.
He said this was the result of a meeting the labour leaders held with President Bola Tinubu and extracted some commitments from the government to address the concerns of the unions.
โThe protest has been called off because the government has promised that within the next week, a lot of things will be put in place,โ Osifo said.
According to him, the government had agreed to set up a committee to review the minimum wage and to provide palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel price increase.
Osifo noted that the unions would be tracking the governmentโs implementation of these promises and would resume the strike if they are not met.
