Three female students of the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), have been declared dead following the struggle for palliative at the school convocation square.
IdanNews gathered that the state government had scheduled to distribute bags of rice and N5000 to students of the university to cushion the economic situation in the country.
An eyewitness who is a student from the institution, Gloria Agbo, said the incident occurred on Friday during a stampede as students struggled to gain entrance to the venue.
It was learned that many were injured but those who were severely affected were rushed to the hospital.
Agbo disclosed that the deceased were reportedly 200-level students from the Mass Communication Department NSUK.
She said, “The school authorities had asked students to convene at the convocation square by 8 am. But because students wanted to be seated before then some arrived at the venue as early as 3 am.
“The rush began when those at the venue began calling friends and colleagues that the venue was almost filled. So they started running and some fell in the process.
“Five persons who were said to be seriously injured and were taken away to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Keffi, by the school authorities, but three have been declared dead
“The pictures of the girls were shared on the Student government platform.โ
At the time of filing this report, the school authorities and state government have yet to make any statement on the incident.
